Good Heavens!
Dear India Christian Fellowship (ICF) Friends,
Greetings in Jesus' matchless name. Hope you don't take from the title that the sky is falling. We can be rest assured that the sky won't fall until certain events have happened first! (see Rev 6:12-17) Humans have been fascinated by the heavens from the dawn of creation. The Bible tells us that the lights in the firmament of the heaven...are there for signs, seasons, days and years (Gen 1:14). Even the book of Job, one of the oldest books in the Bible, expresses God's justice and His omnipotence through God's awe-inspiring work of creating the heavens (Job 9:7-10). King David in his famous Psalm 19, chose to juxtapose the "natural law" imposed on the heavenly bodies with God's "moral law" imposed on "earthly bodies" i.e. mankind. It is wisely extrapolated that David penned this Psalm as a shepherd boy while tending his sheep, late in the night, out in the open fields under the dark skies scintillating with stars and planets. Wow, what a scene! Even God chose to place a star as a sign in the skies to announce the advent of His perfect Son Jesus Christ, the King of kings, the Lord of lords to this dusty sinful planet (Matt 2:2). Why, on the day of Pentecost, as Peter mollifies a mocking crowd, the Holy Spirit inspires him to quote from the prophet Joel and when describing the day of the Lord inter alia he talks about God showing wonders in heaven above wherein the sun will be darkened, the moon being turned into blood (Acts 2:16-20). What a frightening picture, yet one that is comforting for the believer! Friends on that note, I am so excited to announce that this month at the ICF Spike Psarris will come talk to us about how heavens declare the glory of God. Spike was previously an engineer in the United States’ military space program. He entered that program as an atheist and an evolutionist. He left it as a creationist and a Christian. We will have catered dinner (a freewill offering will be taken to defray food costs) but you are welcome to bring soda/salad/dessert. Yours for our King, Richard Lewis ICF Servant-President |
